Here it is, Valentines Day has worked its way back around. This is always a somewhat bittersweet day. I have to admit, I’ve never been much of a fan of today. I can see and feel the love around, but it is a day of reflection and one that can either make you feel good about yourself, or make you dive face first into a box of chocolates.
In many of my own life lessons, I’ve come to realize that there is so much truth behind the notion that you need to love yourself before anyone can even begin to love you back. The love that you show and express to yourself on a daily basis can be the most powerful aspect of love to experience on a regular occasion. We tend to love others and treat others that we love better than we treat ourselves at times. Why is that? Why do we give so much of ourselves to others out of love and caring, but seldom do we turn that back to us. Seldom do we allow our souls and beings to love every ounce of us- before we can love every ounce of them.
Through some difficult yet life changing and eye-opening relationships in life, I have found that path to loving ones self, and realizing that the love that we give to our own souls is just as important as the love we give to others.
Some people don’t want love. They can’t handle it, they can’t begin to love themselves let alone fathom the thought of someone else loving them, just the way they are.
Don’t allow yourself to be one of these people. Love you before you can begin to love them. The love you experience and give will magnify the love you are surrounded by and receive.
Loving yourself can take many different forms, it can be eating good organic food to nourish your cells and feed your body, exercising and moving your body temple to increase heart rate and cardiac output, sleeping adequate amounts in order to rejuvenate your mind and rest your bones, or meditating and breathing in clean air and fresh opportunities. It can take many forms, it is just a matter of how you perceive this action and how deeply you enjoy each moment.
Be true to you. Love number one, before you can share the wealth around. If you can fall in love with something each and every day, if you can appreciate love and happiness within yourself than every day and every experience you embark upon will be coming from a place of centered love.
Love is a tough one. But it can be the most rewarding and self-serving emotion of all.
Just trust in it. Trust in your ability to love yourself, and the love from others will come. It has to.
